The work of Andrew Longstaff focuses on the ideas of experience and vision, how we see the world and interpret images. Through applying photography as a self referential tool, the ultimate in realism, he hopes to look into the expected and make us question the true nature of the medium.
Through using alternative techniques, creating cameras and focusing on the materiality of the process the work becomes an experiment in understanding for both the photographer and the viewer. This ever evolving exploration of what we expect from imagery and how we create it is neccessary to reconnect the understanding of the image with the creating processes.
